Wedding Day Stories: Matching Wits With Mom
A little conversation is good when you're approaching people with a camera, and helps break the ice. One of my favorite wedding day memories is my meeting the mother of the bride on few years back. We'll call her "Jane". We were introduced during prep at the hotel. I could tell right away she was a real pistol, with a wry sense of humor, and would be a lot of fun to be around. I listened to her toss a few barbs and knew I would be a target at some point. Setting up for a portrait, she said, "Now Chris, make sure this is a good one. I don't want it to look like your mugshot from your arrest for (insert your favorite heinous crime here). I smiled and replied in a smooth tone as I arranged some items in the background." Jane, you know that those charges were never proven, and I didn't serve any time- for that one."
